The Early Childhood Program at H.W. Longfellow gives young learners the advantage of starting their education in a positive environment that focuses on interactive learning and healthy childhood development. Kindergarten students are continuously coached and when appropriate, interventions are implemented through the Head Start and High Scope. These programs help prepare K4 and K5 students for academic success in the early grades.
Head Start Program
The Head Start program is nationally-recognized as the most successful, longest-running school readiness program in the United States. It provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition and parent involvement services to children from low-income families.
The High/Scope Educational Research Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that specializes in research, development, training and public outreach. High/Scope’s mission is to lift lives through education, giving everyone a chance to succeed in life and contribute to society. High/Scope takes a hands-on approach, realizing that field trips and real life experiences are important factors in educating a child. “Plan-Do-Review” Centers are set up in classrooms at Longfellow. These learning centers allow children to improve academic skills while playing.
