S. T. E. M. is more than an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education removes the traditional barriers between the four disciplines by integrating the subjects into one cohesive means of teaching and learning. The synergy of the STEM disciplines results in a coalescence of skills in critical thinking, problem solving, innovation and creativity.
In other words…STEM} S + T + E + M
STEM at Walt Whitman translates into a wide variety of rich and rigorous experiences for the flexation of those brain muscles that make science engineering math and technology so much fun. Previously, our students benefitted from such outstanding community programming as STARBASE, JA Biztown, Boerner Botannical Gardens, a 1st grade field trip to a manufacturing facility, Engineering is Elementary (EiE) in the classroom and a bundle of fun activities throughout the year. To see what’s brewing up for the 2013-2014 school calendar, visit the pages under Programs and Partnerships and select the program your child will be involved in this year!
