The induction ceremony for the National Junior Honor Society was held Monday, May 20th. The NJHS started at Westside in 2006. This year we have formed a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. 8th grade NJHS members get top wear special cords at their completion ceremony.

Shawn Benford, Terrell Harris and Donya Mui-Wright competed in the district science fair on Thursday, May 9th.

Westside Academy’s National Junior Honor Society is making a difference with their required service hours. The NJHS is helping Habitat for Humanity. While they are not old enough to work on a local site, they are painting rain barrels used in new construction in Habitat’s Blitz Build.  The build site is located at 1426 North 34^th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood. Westside’s NJHS chapter visited to site to see first-hand how Habitat for Humanity builds their homes and to ask questions of the volunteers.

Seventh and eighth grade students participate in an after-school program with the Milwaukee Rep Theatre. Students are currently researching the history of the Washington Park neighborhood and will present their findings at a family night on June 5. As a part of this program, they attended “Clybourne Park” and “A Raisin in the Sun” at the Rep.
