Camp Stuart (Before and After School Care):
English as a Second Language (ESL):
Stuart Elementary is known for its diverse population. We have students from many different countries including Thailand, Nigeria, Somalia, Burma, Congo, Liberia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Uganda.
Stuart has a very dedicated ESL teacher and a Para-Professional along with student teachers who work with our diverse population. In this program they are taught the English language along with the American culture. These students never lose sight of their own culture and are encouraged to share their cultural traditions with our whole school.
SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education):
The Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program was established in the 1996-97 school year to improve student achievement through the implementation of four specific school-improvement strategies (see below). Wisconsin’s approximately 449 SAGE schools enter renewable 5-year contracts designed to promote academic achievement through lower class sizes in the primary grades. Schools receive state aid for each low-income K-3 child.
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports):
PBIS is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach. Data shows that schools that implement PBIS with fidelity see decreases in disruptions and suspensions and increases in student achievement.

Student of the Month
Every month, teachers choose one exemplary student to honor. These students then have their pictures displayed in the office for all to see. Also, parents are invited to a luncheon where their son/daughter receives and award from the principal. Learn more about our Students of the Month.
Specials: Stuart offers weekly Music, Gym, and Art.
D.R.E.A.M. (Daily Reading, Everybody Achieves More)
DREAM requires reading as a part of homework every day for every Stuart Student. Students may pick any age appropriate subject matter. The pay-off is huge in terms of a child’s chances for academic success: good readers learn more easily and with more enjoyment. We need other family members to read to our nonreaders and early readers to help children:
- get into the habit of daily reading
- be introduced to story forms and
- grow in understanding of written language.
Co-ed Basketball: (looking for coach for 2015-16 season)
Piano Lessons: Lessons are offered for all 3rd-5th graders for a minimal fee. Once a year, students showcase their talent by performing in a recital in front of their classmates and parents.
