Strong parental involvement is one of the strengths of our school, and membership in the Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) provides a solid network of resources to facilitate that involvement. Membership is just $5.00 per family, and helps us pay for events throughout the year. Fees can be given to the school office as cash or check made payable to Rufus King High School with “PTSO” in the memo line.

Come to a meeting!
Meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month, from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. PTSO agendas, minutes, and confirmation of the date, time, and place will be communicated through the “020Parents” listserv, PTSO listserv, and the RKIHS PTSO website.
A lot is going on at the high school — how can you keep up? The PTSO sends out a monthly newsletter that you can receive by joining our listserv at http://eepurl.com/GUPID— but there are other, more frequent sources of news as well. You must sign up to receive the following notifications:
School announcements: Go to the high school webpage. At the bottom right hand column of every page on the site is a box that says “Subscribe for School Updates.” By providing your email, you will receive the same announcements that are read over the P.A. every day. A great resource for news about clubs, extracurricular trips, sports deadlines and results, etc.
Parent listserv: Mrs. Downey, the Parent Coordinator, sends out occasional announcements regarding scholarships and job fairs, from the PTSO asking for volunteers for specific events, from the community regarding academic and other opportunities, and more. This is communicated via the RKIHS “020Parents” listserv. Mrs. Anderson may also use this listserv on occasion. Write Mrs. Downey at email@example.com to be included in these mailings.
Robo-calls. The school also gives information about upcoming dates and deadlines by telephone robo-call. If you haven’t received any, call the school or email Mrs. Downey to make sure they have your correct phone number.
Our Children Magazine: Our Children Magazine is the unique voice for parents, published by National PTA, created for the parent who’s always on the go and looking for the best info to help their child excel at school and in life.
Topics in Our Children Magazine include:
Stay up-to-date on great teachable moments and ideas to create a community that supports your child’s success from Our Children Magazine. Our Children Magazine is also printed twice a year and distributed to PTA members. Parents, educators, and interested community members can now read our digital edition for FREE.
