Freshman Bridge Letter to New Tigers

New Riverside University High School Families,

As the Principal of Riverside University High School, it is an honor to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! We are excited to welcome the class of 2024 and to join families of the class of 2024 as partners in learning as our new students embark on their high school journey.

Riverside University High School is a college preparatory school where we want to see your children succeed academically. During the summer, we have been preparing for a virtual opening by ensuring we have updated technology items. We have also been working to create technology based professional development for our staff, in addition to continuing work around our school improvement plan. Ensuring that our students continue to make gains in writing proficiency and other academic skills during these challenging times is essential. It will be our goal as a staff to be able to provide a high level of continuity regarding instructional practices within the virtual setting.

During our scholars’ time at RUHS, it is the objective of our community to support our students’ academic and emotional growth. Parents, the staff at Riverside University will work hard to develop and maintain good communication practices throughout your child’s time here. We encourage you to seek ways to get involved in your child’s educational experience throughout the school year; especially as we start the year in a virtual learning environment. This school year you will notice that your children will receive a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. In addition, we will work to make many of the clubs that we offer during face to face instruction available to students in the virtual setting.

On August 3rd we will meet many of our incoming 9th grade students for the first time. During the drive up welcome we will complete the Chromebook check out contract, distribute our Freshman Bridge shirt and snacks, and provide you with your schedule and appropriate textbooks you will need this year. As you participate in our first day of Bridge on the 3rd please adhere to the schedule below:

Monday August 3 Freshmen whose last name begins with letters A – M 8:00 – 12:00 p.m.
Monday August 3 Freshmen whose last name begins with letters N – Z 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

On August 5th our new 9th graders will get their first taste of what their high school virtual learning experience will look like. We hope that participation in the virtual Bridge experience on the 5th will provide you with the tools to navigate the online environment starting on the first day of the school on August 17th. During this online introduction students will experience a lesson reflecting on historical social justice movements within the United States. In addition students will engage in a lesson focusing on transition skills and perseverance and resilience.

Lastly I would like to invite all our new students and their families to view the videos below related to engaging in our online platform Google Classroom. As students enter Riverside virtually it will be essential that parents and students can actively participate in both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. The videos below will serve as a starting point to ensure the everyone is able to access important online learning tools.
