At MSLS, we believe that parents serve as the first and most important educators in a child’s life. Education begins at home and our staff strives to build upon the basic foundation and values instilled in young learners before they attend school. Families are essential to a child’s success both inside and outside the classroom. MSLS provides endless opportunities for parents to be active in their child’s education. A variety of meetings, events and activities are held during the school year to keep parents and guardians involved. Parent involvement is critical for a child to succeed academically and grow emotionally. Families can support the MSLS community by:
- Ensuring that your child arrives to school on time every day (7:35 a.m.)
- Calling the MSLS office when your child is absent at (414) 393-3860
- Ensuring that your child gets the proper amount of sleep every night
- Providing a nutritional lunch for your child
- Checking your child’s book bag every day
- Reading with your child daily
- Assisting your child with homework
- Dressing your child appropriately according to the weather
- Offering assistance in the classrooms
- Attending field trips
Classroom & Field Trip Assistance/Volunteering
Parents and guardians are encouraged to come to MSLS and assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to combine support from home with support at school, making for positive results. Parents must make arrangements with the teacher before coming to help in the classroom. Also to ensure the safest learning experience for all students, teachers may enlist the use of volunteers to serve as chaperones on field trips. This is a valuable service for which the MSLS staff is very grateful. Parent volunteers are given established procedures to provide structure and accountability and to keep students safe when they are away from school. If you are interested, please fill out the online form.
The Governance Council is given a variety of responsibilities and meets monthly to discuss school-wide policies, the MSLS budget and the Educational Plan.
All students are given a Tuesday Folder when they enroll at MSLS. These folders go home with students every Tuesday. Inside these folders is student the parent newsletter and additional important papers. Parents are encouraged to look for this folder every Tuesday.
