The Milwaukee School Board developed the policy that all Milwaukee Public Schools have their own school councils. The purpose of the council is to work collaboratively to provide input on: the improvement of school policies, selection of curriculum, developing educational plan goals and enhancing general student well being. The Council’s decision making authority is advisory. The Council consists of at least 51% parents, and the rest is made up of the principal, staff members and a community representative. Representatives are elected in the spring.
Parents on the Council have an important role. They help make decisions about programs and determine what to budget for in the next school year. Council meetings are held monthly, 9 times a year. The term for each member is two years. This year (2017) we will hold these meeting in a very informal setting on the first Monday of every month in the school library. Meeting will begin at 4:30pm. Below are the date of the meetings for the rest of 2017:
Sept 18 @ 4:30pm ( Not on the first Monday due to start of school)
No meeting in OCT
Nov 6 @ 4:30pm
Dec 4 @ 4:30pm
