MPS Family Interest Survey 2020/21
The purpose of school governance councils is to provide a forum for parents, teachers, community members, students, and principals to work together in providing continued analysis and improvement of public school policies, educational plan goals, and general student well-being. The council shall also be a clearinghouse for information collected from outside organizations, including student groups, parent-teacher groups, teacher associations, etc. The council’s decision-making authority is advisory with respect to all duties, powers, and responsibilities, with the sole exception of the council’s authority and responsibility to submit a cover letter setting forth its agreement or disagreement with the school’s annual budget and the school’s annual educational plan.
Specific advisory responsibilities assigned to councils include:
1.Periodic review and assessment of the annual school educational plan.
2.Annual review of school’s budget.
3.Periodic review and assessment of school performance including, but not limited to, student achievement, parental involvement, dress-code expectations, character and value building, behavioral concerns, scheduling procedures, building maintenance, and suspension/disciplinary procedures.
4.Participation in the process of interviewing and recommending principal appointments to the Superintendent in a manner consistent with Board Administrative Policy 6.23.
Our first meeting for the 20-21 school year will be held Thursday, September 24 at 5:30pm
District Advisory Council(DAC)
Milwaukee Public Schools established the District Advisory Council (DAC) to ensure that parents of all students have an opportunity to share their ideas about the needs of children, assist in the planning and operation of Title I programs for children and participate in evaluating the success of Title I efforts. Today, the DAC is a diverse group of families committed to lending their voice on current issues faced by Milwaukee Public Schools.
Learn more about the DAC here. https://mps.milwaukee.k12.wi.us/en/Families/Family-Involvement/Advisory-Committee.htm
If you are interested in representing Milwaukee High Shcool of the Arts at the DAC meetings. Contact Ms. Harris at firstname.lastname@example.org
Opt in to Receive District Text Messages
MPS has transitioned to School Messenger to send text messages to families with the latest updates, safety alerts, school closings, and more. Families should send a text message to 67587 to connect to the new system. In the message, send Y or YES to ensure that you continue to receive important texts from your school and the district.
