Spelling Bee 2020
Thank you to all who participated in our school-wide Spelling Bee this year. It was a great success! Thank you Ms. Kennedy for all of your assistance and support with this wonderful event.
Congratulations to the Manitoba Spelling Bee Winners:
1st Place: Angel Pulido
2nd Place: William Gonzalez
3rd Place: Trinitee Johnson
The District Spelling Bee is in April. We encourage you as parents to help our children selected to study for this event.
Safety First
We continue to address the need for everyone to follow MPS procedures for entering the building. Parents, you must visit the main office, sign in, and retrieve a visitor’s pass.
Please reach out to administration for assistance if you are unable to resolve an issue with the classroom teacher or if your student is having a problem.
Remember, we do not allow parents to address other students if their student is having a conflict.
Thank you.
Principal’s March Message
Dear Manitoba Family,
As we begin the month of March, it is also the time of year that we focus on the State Forward Exam. I have reviewed the benchmark assessments from January. In the subject area of reading, we continue to see many students below target or well below target.
We are asking you, as our partners, to have your students read 20 minutes a day. We would like for you to take the time to read aloud to our younger students so that they are able to hear the fluency (word flow).
I would like to ask all of you to have a conversation with your child about appropriate language and behavior expectations. I have noticed several students in all grade levels not always modeling the Manitoba way. We appreciate your support!
***One Team, One Goal, One Manitoba***
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jones-Goodwin
Attendance Update
Our attendance goal this year is to achieve a 96% or better attendance rate.
We are currently at 91%; we must raise this rate. As a reminder during the 2019-2020 school year, we lost 5 points off of our state report card due to having a high absentee rate, over 13%. We are currently at 14.7%.
We are still higher than last year to date for attendance; however, we have to keep up the good work! This is just a friendly reminder that our students are expected to be in school everyday.
Please call the school attendance line to report your child’s absence at 414-902-8660, and follow up with a note when your child returns to school.
Black History Program
Our Black History Program will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2020.
There are 2 performances: 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
These programs are entirely student led and student driven.
