JOINING HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS AT JUNEAU CAMPUS
If your child is interested in participating in any sports they need to meet all requirements and turn in all of the required forms BEFORE the season starts. The student-athlete must be a full time student, have no more than one (1) failing grade the previous marking period, and 3rd and 4th year students must have a GPA of at least 2.0. Incoming freshmen do not have any grade requirements for fall sports.
The following must be turned in before the athlete is allowed to practice or compete:
- Emergency Contact Card (Filled out by parent, see Athletic Emergency Contact card)
- Athletic Permit Card (Signed by both parent and athlete, see permit card)
- Physical Examination Card (Signed by a doctor, parent, and athlete. See Physical card.)
- A physical is required every two (2) years
- $25.00 Athletic Fee
- A copy of the athletes insurance card (required by the district)
- Juneau Athletic Handbook signed by both parent and athlete. Attached here: 2019-2020 Handbook
All necessary forms can be picked up in the athletics office during the school day.
In high school, student-athletes are expected to attend practice every day and stay on top of academics. If for any reason you cannot attend a practice or game it is important that your coach knows ahead of time.
Shuttle bus transportation will be provided to the practice location. Bus tickets will be provided to get home. To get home, athletes may choose one of the following options – get a ride, take the city bus from practice site using the provided ticket, or take the shuttle bus back to Juneau and get home from there.
In order to join one of the interscholastic athletic teams at Juneau, a student should attend the first organizational meeting held for the sport. In most cases, all students who wish to join a team may do so. If a student has expressed an interest in a particular sport, his/her name will be given to the coach of the sport. If a student is not able to attend the organizational meeting, simply contact the Athletic Director to indicate your interest. Upon doing so, the student’s name will be given to the coach of the sport he/she wishes to join.
Athletes may participate in only one (1) sport per season. There are 3 seasons each school year: Fall, Winter, Spring.
Awards are presented for successful completion of the activity as determined by the coach/advisor and Athletic Director.
