MacDowell Students and Families,
We truly miss you! Working with students each day and seeing their smiling faces is what brings our staff so much joy. It has been a difficult time for our community, and we are all adjusting to this new normal. As we know that this closure will now last until the end of the school year, we will provide you with updated information from the district as it is provided to us. You can keep updated by visiting the Covid-19 section of the MPS webpage.
The district has also provided some great online resources that your children can access. When your children are using the online reading and math programs on the district resource page, sit with them and work through the items together. They can ask you questions that they have and you can give them explanations for things that they don’t understand. This is a great way to support good reading and math instruction at home. Read to your younger child at least 30 minutes per day, and have them read to you if they are able. Encourage them to keep writing daily. A great practice for elementary and middle school students is to do a journal writing every day. This is an informal way to keep them communicating in writing, and will give them the opportunity to express themselves.
Parents should expect to hear from their child’s teacher next week to roll out what the rest of the school year will look like for online learning. This is a difficult time and we will do our best to help parents through the arduous task of learning how to provide support for instruction. We know that together we can help our students grow!
I hope that you and your families are safe and healthy. Please make sure you hold your loved ones close to you. We can get through this! #Saferathome
