Artists Working in Education (AWE)
Artists Working in Education, Inc. (A.W.E.), sponsors professional artists to nurture the imaginations of Milwaukee children by bringing creative visual arts experiences directly to schools, community centers and informal settings such as parks, playgrounds and community events.
A.W.E. artists guide children through the process of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Hands-on art activities with professional artists help children develop new ways of seeing the world, enhanced inquisitiveness, creativity, flexibility, imagination and confidence. A.W.E. believes children deserve the opportunity not only to look at art, talk about art and write about art , but to create art.

Junior Achievement
We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. The mission of this program is to ensure that every child in the state has an opportunity to obtain an understanding of the free enterprise system. Lessons are organized according to the MPS Social Studies curriculum. The Junior Achievement curriculum is first implemented in K5 classrooms and continues through eighth grade.

SAGE small class sizes
The Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program was established in the 1996-97 school year to improve student achievement through the implementation of four specific school-improvement strategies (see below). Wisconsin’s approximately 449 SAGE schools enter renewable 5-year contracts designed to promote academic achievement through lower class sizes in the primary grades. Schools receive state aid up to $2,250 for each low-income K-3 child.
HighScope early childhood programming
The High/Scope program offers a preschool to age eight curriculum model that provides appropriate activities for each stage of a child’s mental and physical growth. Teachers are trained to use the High/Scope method and the classroom is equipped to support the child’s learning skills acquired in preschool and elementary school.
