Extracurricular Activities

Dr. King School is home to a range of wonderful organizations, clubs and teams that offer students an outlet to express creativity, establish relationships with their peers and teachers, and further their education even after the school day ends. The following programs focus on building students’ social skills and developing confidence to explore new talents. While the activities are recreational, they concentrate on values such as responsibility, respect and hard work. We encourage all students to become involved in extracurricular activities at Dr. King School.

For more information on any extracurricular program, please call (414) 267-1500.

Dr. King School offers the following extracurricular programs:

Basketball

Dr. King School’s basketball program is a great way for boys and girls to work as a team while honing their athletic abilities. Most importantly, it’s a great way for students to have fun. Our coaches build participants’ skills and knowledge of the sport while strengthening player stamina and cooperation.

Black History Education Trip

Every year, grade 8 students travel out of state to embark on a journey through historic Civil Rights landmarks. The trip brings history to life as students go on tours, visit museums and see the sites where defining moments occurred that forever changed the nation.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin, Inc. is a non-profit organization aiming to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics, and be better prepared for the workforce. High-achieving members from the business community teach from a curriculum, which coincides with the MPS Social Studies Learning Targets. Lessons are presented over five sessions of 30-45 minutes each. This program teaches students the basics of business and economics while reminding them that education determines success in any workplace.

Student Volunteer Jobs

To reinforce the value and importance of good work ethic, students are able to provide service to Dr. King School by working as cafeteria helpers, playground monitors, peer helpers, morning announcers, ambassadors, couriers, school photographers and other various positions. Students must apply for a specific job before they are interviewed and “hired” by the staff person in charge. These students are recognized with Service Awards on the Award Days at the end of each semester. Some jobs offer a token pay at the end of the week or month.
