I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to share with you my educational philosophy. I have twelve years of classroom experience having taught from K5-8th grade. Most of my experience is with at-risk students as a reading resource teacher or reading specialist. I have a variety of academic licenses including my administration license. I strongly believe that all students can be educated so that they become the best person they can be. I want students to leave Humboldt Park knowing that all options are open to them and they can have the best future possible. I’m interested in integrating technology into education both to motivate students and to prepare them for the future that awaits them.
On a personal note, I have been married for 34 years to a very patient man, David Lorenz. You’ll notice that we don’t have the same last name – a nod to my feminist side. David is an engineer. I have two incredible kids. Jesse is an attorney for the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. He is married and I am blessed to have a great daughter-in-law, Kiara. She’s a pharmacist. My son and his wife have a beautiful daughter, Elsie and a second baby girl on the way. Carla, my daughter, is a free spirit in New York City who supports herself as a hairstylist. She is passionate about her art and continues to develop as an artist. Both of my children are proud graduates of MPS. My family is rounded out by two dogs. Sam is a mutt who is a very sweet soul. Charlie is a Lhasa Apso and Bichon Frise mix who is a grumpy old man.
I encourage you to stop by my office any time to talk about your loves and concerns regarding Humboldt Park. I am excited about the future here and I want you to be as much a part of that as possible. I’m looking forward to an incredible upcoming school year.
