THE HONEY CREEK SCHOOL MURAL PROJECT
This school year, the children in Room 110 are working on a very ambitious year-long project. Along with the Honey Creek “Young Athletes,” the children in Mrs. Kolehmainen and Ms. Milani’s Class are designing a ceramic mural to eventually be displayed at the entrance to Honey Creek School. Our beautiful, large mural will illustrate events, themes, and representations of what makes our school such a tremendous school community. Representative elements for the mural will include scouting, community service, academic achievement, parental involvement, musical talent, and so on. With the leadership of Milwaukee Public Schools Adaptive Arts Specialist Sue Loesl, and her Mount Mary College Intern Natasha Kalafatis, we are working cooperatively to create beautiful pieces of artwork which will be combined into a mural – grand enough for public display. In our journey thus far, the boys and girls have been learning about art elements, experimenting with different types of clay, using templates, slabs, clay tools, and various textures to design representations of just what makes Honey Creek School such a special and wonderful place to be. The children are learning so much during these special sessions.
