Alexander Hamilton High School offers a variety of courses for dual credit. Dual credit courses enable students to earn high school credit and credit at a post-secondary school. These courses can save students time and money. When they are enrolled in a dual credit course at HHS, they are also working on their first year of school after graduation.
ARTICULATION AGREEMENT PROGRAM
Hamilton High School has an articulation agreement with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). This agreement enables students to take courses taught by HHS staff and earn MATC credit if they meet specific standards. These course standards are part of the articulated agreement between MPS/HHS and MATC. It is possible to complete the first year of a two year MATC degree at HHS. Currently this agreement includes the following courses:
BUSINESS AND FINANCE
Accounting 1, Marketing Education 1, 2
Business Software Management, Marketing Education OJT
Desktop Publishing – Also in agreement with WCTC
Graphic Technology 1, 2, 3 – Also in agreement with WCTC
ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM
The Advanced Placement (AP) program at HHS offers college-level courses and exams to students who may earn enough credits for sophomore standing in college. The AP courses are taught by HHS staff and The College Board administers the AP Exams. Scores on the AP Exams determine whether students earn advanced placement and/or college credit while they are still at HHS. A student must earn a 3 or better on the exam in order to earn college credit. One may earn 3 to 6 college credits per exam (course). It is the policy of Alexander Hamilton High School that all students enrolled in AP classes take the Advanced Placement Exam in each of the courses he/she is enrolled. Currently, HHS offers the following AP courses and/or exams:
- AP Art History AP English Literature/Composition
- AP Biology AP English Language/Composition
- AP Calculus AB
- AP Chemistry
- AP European History AP Psychology
- AP Spanish Language AP U.S. Government/Politics AP U.S. History
- AP Human Geography
EDUCATIONAL PLACEMENT IN THE COMMUNITY (EPIC)
Open to Grade: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Instructor and/or Counselor approval
Length: 1-4 quarters
The course will provide students with the opportunity to participate in the community through volunteerism and/or career and job exploration while earning credits toward graduation. Students who participate will provide a valuable service to the community, gain valuable experience in the world of work, network with potential employers and become eligible for scholarships and awards. Students should have a GPA of 2.0 and must have a good attendance record to participate.
The student will work 8-15 hours a week at the volunteer/job site and complete weekly logs about their experiences.
