Spring Open House
Our Spring Open House will be held in person on Thursday, April 21st from 5:30-7pm. This will be a wonderful opportunity for guardians to visit their student’s classroom. For this Open House, we are asking that students present to their parents some Montessori work.
This could be something they are proud of that they completed. It could be science experiments, research projects, or Montessori material work with some in-depth research.
Please pick one 15 minute slot per family to visit your student’s classroom on the sign up genius links below. Only 6 appointments are available for each time slot. Families and students will be asked to leave the classroom after their 15 minute time slot to allow time for the next group of families to see their student’s work.

Lost and Found Items
Lost and found items will be set up outside of room 16 (near the office) during the open house. Please stop by to see if any of the items belong to your students. There will also be books that have been withdrawn from our library for families to take home outside of room 16. All remaining items will be donated following the open house.
Attention all Lower Elementary Families! Fernwood Original Songs
Back in February the lower elementary classes began creating their own songs. We used a program called Sountrap to make the music and recorded students’ voices. Students voted on which instruments, sounds, and tracks they wanted to add to their song and others volunteered to write and sing their own lyrics. We discussed form and how the songs should develop. We used a digital audio interface to connect a microphone to the computer to record student voices. We also discussed the mood our songs and songs from other classes evokes. The way the songs were created is similar to how pop music is made. Students got first hand experience for what it might be like working as a musician, composer, and producer in a music studio. The process was really fun and it was amazing to see so many students challenge themselves and sing. It can be scary to sing in front of others and hearing your own voice.
We hope you enjoy the songs!
Thanks, Mr. Miller

MPS Lifts Mask Mandate
Beginning April 18, 2022, masks will no longer be required for students and staff in MPS schools and buildings. The wearing of masks will be optional at all MPS locations.
The decision was made on March 24, 2022, during the regular monthly meeting of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. Discussion included analysis of current trends of COVID-19 and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Milwaukee Health Department. The April 18 date was selected to avoid any possible surges in COVID-19 following various dates for spring break across the state. Read more about optional masks in MPS.
