Covid Guidelines
Please do not send your children to school if they are experiencing one major or two minor symptoms of COVID as listed on the attached “Guidelines Regarding a Sick Child”. A negative COVID test or a doctor’s note clearing your child to return to school as well as symptom improvement are required prior to return. MPS does not currently accept home COVID test results.
Fully vaccinated students with family members who have symptoms do not need to be kept home. No quarantine is required for fully vaccinated students who are identified as close contacts of positive COVID cases unless they test positive or develop symptoms themselves. Please continue to encourage proper mask wearing and hand hygiene at home. Thank you for your support in ensuring the health and safety of our school and community.
We will continue to follow all mitigation strategies in our building to keep everyone safe at school. We will also continue with no visitors policy, virtual meetings only, and only students and staff will be allowed in the building until further notice. More information is forthcoming about after school activities.

MPS Offers $100 Incentive for Students (5-11) Who Vaccinate against COVID-19
To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and promote the health and safety of MPS students, staff, and families, Milwaukee Public Schools is offering a $100 incentive for each student ages five to eleven who become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 14, 2022. The district is providing information about eligibility, receiving the vaccine, and applying for the incentive on the Student COVID-19 Vaccine Incentive web page. The incentive will be a $100 rewards card mailed to each student at the address listed in Infinite Campus/Parent Portal. Proof of vaccination will be determined by information listed in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).
Who is eligible to receive the $100 vaccine incentive? To be eligible, students must • be 5–11 years of age, • be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 14, 2022, • complete the online application by January 31, 2022, • attend any MPS school, including any MPS charter school or partnership school. Note that children ages 5 to 11 are eligible ONLY for the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses at least 21 days apart.
How do families apply for the incentive? To apply for the student incentive, a family member can access the online application at mpsmke.com/studentvax. You will need your student’s MPS log-in information, which is the student ID (seven-digit number) and password. More information can be found in the application. The application is due by 11:59 p.m. on January 31, 2022. The application can be filled out by smartphone.
Fernwood PTO Cookbook
The PTO wants your recipes!
Sharing food has always been a big part of the Fernwood Community. Now, the PTO is looking to create a community cookbook. Please consider contributing a favorite family recipe to be included. All recipe types are welcome.
A few suggestions include holiday favorites, go-to dinners for busy nights, desserts, snacks, a side dish you always bring to a potluck. If you love to cook it, we want to see it!
Cookbooks will be available for purchase later in the school year.
Please email all submissions and any questions to Katie Walters at katieberkwalters@gmail.com. Please include your name or family name the way you would like it listed in the cookbook and students’ names and classrooms. Please submit all recipes by January 31!
K3 and K4 Fernwood Enrollment! Coming Soon!
Online enrollment for new K3 and K4 students will begin in MPS on February 5th and run through March 6th. The application will be online through the MPS website. Please watch the newsletter for more information. We will share information and links as soon as it becomes available. Please share this information with any potential families who are interested in attending Fernwood in the Fall. Students must be 3 by September 1st, 2022 to be eligible to apply.
~If your new to Fernwood K3/K4 student has a sibling currently enrolled at Fernwood, a spot is guaranteed. However, in order to get a spot, an application must be submitted during the application window and the current student’s name should be included in the application.
~Applications can be submitted throughout the application window. There is no advantage to completing the application on the first day of the process.
~Current Fernwood students do not need to reapply. They are automatically re enrolled.
