Welcome to Cooper’s Early Childhood!!
Starting the year with some alphabet fun!
Welcome to the new school year at CooperSchool. My name is Ms. Kohnke. I will be your child’s teacher this year. I have been working at Cooper Elementary for the past eighteen years as the Early Childhood: Special Education Teacher. I have continued my education in the areas of: regular education, reading and reading specialist and completed my Master’s Degree in Education in 2010.
Your child’s new classroom will be Room 26. My telephone number directly to my voice mail is 304-6333. I will check my voice mail first thing in morning and at the end of the day. I will be prompt in getting back to you over my lunch or at the end of the school day.
If you are calling to report your child absent from school please call the office at 304-6300. When you call, an excuse must be given as to why your child will be absent. Then the absence will be marked as excused rather than unexcused absence. Further information is provided in this folder. Remember that even if you call your child in absent, you are required to also send a written note back to school with your child stating why they missed school.
Inside the Cooper School folder you will find important papers to read and sign. Please complete the forms and return back to school in the folder provided. During the school year, school notes will be in the same Cooper School folder which will be called the Tuesday Folder. The Tuesday Folder that is provided needs to be returned to school and is used all school year. This folder is our way of communicating and will be sent home on Tuesdays in your child’s backpack. Every Tuesday evening, please take out the papers and send the information that needs to be returned in the folder back to school the very next day. Please save the top portion of notes for your reference. If the folder needs to be replaced there is a $2.00 fee.
The K3 program begins at 11:35 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. Lunch will be served. This year, all students can get a free lunch.
To start the school year off on the right foot your child will need an over the shoulder backpack large enough to carry a standard size folder. Please no small backpacks! Please put your child’s name and phone number in or on the backpack with permanent marker. The best spot would be to write the name on the outside of the back of the backpack (in-between the shoulder straps) or to open the backpack and write the information on the inside. This is for safety reasons. It is always a good idea to write your child’s name on the inside of the coat as well as the backpack so it is not mistaken for someone else’s and lost items can be returned.
Your child also needs a notebook to be kept in their backpack. The notebook is an easy way to communicate back and forth when needed. Please use the notebook for comments, concerns, something your child did during the day or evening or anything positive. We will do the same. We also try to check the notebook everyday but sometime this does not happen or I cannot respond immediately. If you prefer to use email that can replace using the notebook. Please give or send me an email so that I can email with you. My email is: firstname.lastname@example.org.
An activity fee of $10.00 will be collected from each child. This fee will cover the cost of items for special projects such as crafts, cooking & sensory activities to name a few. This fee does not cover the cost of field trips or snacks for the classroom.
Please send to school 3 large boxes of tissues, 2 packages of unscented baby wipes (used for wiping hands and faces), 6 Elmer’s glue sticks, 1 Elmer’s glue bottle, 1 box of Beginnings (fatter crayon) Crayola crayons 8 count, 1 box classic Crayola (fat) markers, 1 box flushable wipes, 1 pack Expo dry erase markers, 1 ream of copy paper and a prepackaged snack to share with the class. Some ideas for snacks are: graham crackers, goldfish crackers, pretzels, fruit snacks, pudding, juice… You may send whatever you like but please do not send candy.
Please send a shirt, underwear, socks and pants in a gallon size Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it. Extra clothes on hand will help if there is a potty accident or if we get messy during a learning activity. If your child is not potty trained, please send diapers and baby wipes.
