Hello Burdick Students and Families,
I hope you all are having an enjoyable and safe summer. As many of you may know, the Milwaukee Public School Board of Directors voted in favor of starting the 2020-2021 school year virtually for the Milwaukee Public School District. At Burdick, we understand that this may not be the start to the school year that you or your child envisioned; however, we do take the safety of our students and staff seriously and understand the decision from the school board.
As we approach the upcoming school year, we are preparing our staff to deliver virtual instruction to all of our students. As we engage in this process, we will be reflecting on the feedback provided by our families and students at the end of last school year. We are looking to have a consistent platform throughout our school to deliver online instruction, a detailed schedule for virtual learning, and more frequent communication with our families and students. In addition, we will be relying on parent and student feedback leading up to the start of the school year.
In the upcoming weeks, we will have additional information for our families. This will include a more concrete virtual plan for our students, Chromebook and textbook distribution, updates from the district, and any other important information. During this time, I truly appreciate your patience with our school and look forward to any feedback you may share with us.

Milwaukee Public Schools’ (MPS) phased-in reopening recommendation for the 2020-21 school year was unanimously approved by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. The Board, in a 7-2 vote, also approved to maintain the early and traditional start calendars for the school year.
The phased in approach includes, Phase 1-full remote learning, Phase 2-hybird learning, and Phase 3-face-to-face learning with virtual option.
MPS will start the school year with virtual learning for all students. As the spread of COVID-19 decreases, students will return to schools for two days each week for face-to-face learning and virtual three days each week. Phase three will allow all students to return to the classroom five days a week, when conditions are healthy to return. MPS will monitor public health conditions to determine movement between each phase.
“To help preserve the health and well-being of our students and staff, we believe virtual learning is the best scenario at this time,” MPS Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley said. “This was a difficult decision but a necessary one as we work diligently to provide the best education for our students. We look forward to returning to in-class instruction but only when we can do so safely.”
As details continue to develop, the district will provide information to students, families, and staff regarding the upcoming school year. Families are encouraged to stay up to date with information about the fall semester by visiting the MPS website, downloading the MPS App on their smartphones, and following MPS on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
To enroll, visit mpsmke.com/enroll, call 414-267-5100, or take part in Curbside Enrollment at MPS Central Services on August 3 and 4.

Hello Burdick Families,
I hope you are doing well and enjoying the warm weather. This post is to let you know that the Burdick students have access to a reading enrichment program called myOn for the next three weeks.
If students log in they will take a quick test to determine levels. Then, they have access to thousands of books and daily news articles. I have created several “projects” on various topics and students can read their way through those as well. Below this post are directions, which include the link to log in, and what they should use for their user name and password.
This program is a great way to get the kids reading and help keep those important skills sharp over the summer. There are no requirements. They can use it as much as they want until the end of July. K4 students will not have access to this but they can log into Learning A-Z through the Clever App on the MPS student toolbox. If needed, I could help with that process. This is also an excellent program!
Furthermore, all students can also log on to ST Math through the Clever app on the MPS page. This interactive math program is awesome for helping to prevent backslide while off for the summer. Please see the attachments for directions to use these programs. If you have any problems or questions just email me and we will work through them together. Many students are already signed up and taking full advantage of these great learning opportunities.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of your summer,
