About the Burdick Alumni Association
The Burdick Alumni Association began unofficially in the late 1960’s by several couples who graduated from Burdick in 1936. In 1986 they made the association an official organization, electing a president , two vice presidents, a secretary, and a treasurer.
The Burdick Alumni Association has the following objectives:
- To establish a date, time, and place for annual meeting where members can gather to renew old friendships
- To promulgate to the membership the date, time, and place of the annual gathering and any other information deemed worthy, through a newsletter
- To levy such dues on the membership as may be required to cover costs incurred in providing and mailing the newsletter and other information
- To elect officers for a one year term who will serve on a voluntary basis in carrying out objectives 1 through 3
The first newsletter was distributed in 1987 and the association has copies of all the newsletters.
Currently, there are approximately 140 members, including one retired teacher who was at Burdick for several years beginning in 1948.
The association has an annual banquet the first Thursday following Labor Day in September. Approximately 70-to-80 of the members attend the banquet. The classes of 1948 and 1952 are most represented at the banquet. However, the oldest class represented is 1937 and youngest is 1966.
In addition to renewing old friendships, in the past several years the association has honored in its newsletters previous teachers, principals, a school nurse, and a janitor.
At the 2012 Burdick Spring Concert , the association dedicated the Robert E. Kupfer Athletic Court, the Anthony U. Erickson Band Room and the George F. Cerwin Stage for the Performing Arts in memory of these great teachers . Large plaques bearing their pictures and a tribute to each of them hang in the appropriate rooms of the school. In 2013 the association presented a $500.00 check to Nick Contorno for the Nick Contorno School of Music of Gonaives and Musical Haiti. In 2015 the association donated $1000.00 to Burdick School to be used to further music education to express the gratitude for the great musical education that was available to all of its members.
The association maintains a list of all members, addresses, and phone numbers which is available to all members.
