WINTER WEATHER and ATTENDANCE
Cold weather is a new attendance challenge. It is difficult to send your children to school if they have to wait for a bus in the cold weather. Walking to school in the snowy weather can be slippery too. However, your children must attend school every day. If you need help getting your child a winter coat, boots, gloves or a hat call Mrs. Harris, SSW, (414-256-8430) and she will try to get your child what they need. We do go outside for recess as often as possible, so it is important that the children are dressed appropriately. Older students often resist wearing winter clothing because it’s not cute or cool. Help your child, regardless of their age, make appropriate clothing choices during the winter.
The holidays can be a stressful time for adults, but what about the children? Children are very sensitive to the stress of their parents and caregivers. Take extra time to explain to your children that holidays are about family and sharing; not about what presents they receive. Family time is precious, so take some time to play a board game or read to your children. They will appreciate the time spent with you and you will be able to relax for a few minutes.
As the principal of Burbank School, I realize how lucky I am that I get to work with your beautiful, smart and funny children. They bring joy to my heart every day. I am thankful that you trust Burbank to educate and care for your children when there are many other choices in the city. My wish for you and your family for the upcoming holidays is that your hearts are filled with love, your minds are filled with peace and that you are safe during the long winter ahead. Never hesitate to call if there is anything that I can do to make these things come true. Burbank has many resources available to help families.
