Bay View High School Visual Art Department encourages students to develop creative thinking, problem solving and technical skills in a range of art mediums. The program begins with Art Foundations, a year long class designed to help students learn a range of different skills that will help support future art making. Then students have the opportunity to take Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking as semester long classes. During the year students also have the opportunity to engage with a variety of community service programs, an artist in residence, and culturally relevant art activities.
Future botanists can hone their skills in Bay View’s very own greenhouse. It has been cared for by generations of students, staff, and the surrounding community. Come experience the “Greenhouse Effect” in Bay View’s conservatory. The greenhouse is also a great place to view the unique gargoyles that guard Bay View High School.
Completed in 1923, Bay View’s auditorium is features beautiful historic murals, a proscenium stage with a forty-foot fly loft and recently updated lighting and sound systems. This historic auditorium seats 1,183 and has been a performance venue for numerous school and community events.
Our library is equipped with a range of computers and books that students may access for coursework, research, and career exploration. Computers are equipped with numerous educational databases. Students may use the library during their study halls, or when teachers bring their classes in to use the space. Come explore the Bay View High School library.
For 94 years, Bay View has been the home of numerous conference and state championships. Esteemed alumni include former Olympic Gold Medalist Esther Jones. Bay View offers quality athletic programs for volleyball, wrestling, soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, football, track & field, tennis, and golf.
Bay View has over 400 computers available for student and staff use. In addition to technology equipment, Bay View has one full-time staff member dedicated to helping students and staff make the best use of educational technology.
Our science classrooms are equipped with computers, lab equipment, specimens and chemicals, as well as, models and resources to engage in hands-on experiments and activities in full range of classes that include Physics and AP Physics, Chemistry and AP Chemistry, Biology and AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Biotechnology, Robotics, Physical Science and Health Science.
The fitness center added in 1999 offers all students cardiac, free weight, and weight machines. Students are instructed on the proper use of equipment by certified physical education staff. Exposure to this facility helps to promote positive lifelong fitness habits and healthy lifestyle choices. In our two historic swimming pools, each student is taught the four basic swimming styles and lifesaving techniques. It is mandatory that all Bay View students be proficient in swimming and water safety. Competitive swimming activities are also available to all students.
