Recess:

Recesses will be shortened to 15-20 minutes at a time. This will help lower the risk of student-student interaction on the playground. Recess will be monitored by staff and social distancing & COVID protocol will be encouraged.

All classes will receive two recess breaks. Recess breaks will be AM & PM

Hand sanitizer will be available for students before they enter the building or as needed while playing.

School Supplies & Chromebooks:

Students will receive classroom Chromebooks to be used in the classroom.

General school supplies will be provided as usual however, students will not share supplies with others.

Students should not bring supplies and personal items from home. Except for K students, a change of clothes is allowed.

Water bottles can be brought by all.

COVID Safety & Precautions:

Limited mobility throughout the day/building. Students will NOT be allowed to “roam about the cabin.”

Masks & PPE:

Auer Avenue will enforce a policy of mask wearing for all staff and students. Masks are required at all times on school property except while eating or drinking.

Plexi barriers and appropriate PPE will be provided to students and staff members.

Portable HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filtration units, also known as air purifiers, will be placed in classrooms, assembly spaces, or multiple occupant spaces.

All staff will be equipped with sanitation products to ensure high-touch areas are sanitized throughout the day.

Symptoms and Sickness Procedures:

Monitor for symptoms at home and keep your student(s) home if they are exhibiting symptoms. DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS.

Isolation Room:

The isolation rooms were selected to accommodate 4–6 sick students. Students determined to be symptomatic will not be sent to classrooms. A parent/guardian will be required to pick up the student(s) in a timely manner!

What will happen if someone is exposed to COVID or tests positive:

A letter will be sent in the mail. This exclusion letter indicates the procedures for returning to school after exposure or a positive COVID test. Nurses will screen for COVID symptoms and recommend testing to confirm COVID-positive students. If students feel well enough, they are invited to join virtually while quarantined to prevent learning loss.

Class – 1 case = class goes virtual 14 days.

School – 3 cases = school goes virtual 14 days

The state and city health departments may at any time close school districts at their discretion.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN LEARNING FROM HOME:

Supplies:

Auer Avenue is committed to provide students with the necessary tools to learn at home.

Pick up: April 12 & 13 9AM – Noon

Classrooms will outfitted with cameras so teachers can continue with their regular teaching responsibilities while being projected to at home students. Here’s how it will work…Once teachers greet students, they will share their screen, which is also projected for their students in the classroom. Teachers will monitor what the online students see and reply to their questions in the chat. Teachers will utilize their SMART Boards to simultaneously engage with virtual and in-person students. They will demonstrate math problems or project other things like reading stories on the screen. Students at home will see the teacher, and students in class will see the teacher. The teacher will not be stationed at the computer. The camera will pick up the teacher at the front of the room

Class Start and End Times:

When the school reopens for in-person learning, the students remaining virtual will follow the in-person schedule with a live broadcast of classroom activities. All students will follow the traditional school bell schedule. Physical breaks and brain breaks will be scheduled throughout the day and during class periods.

School starts at 8:00AM

School ends at 2:20PM

The Chromebooks currently being used by students at home will stay at home. Virtual learning students will continue to use the Chromebook that was issued to them.
