Milwaukee Fire Department firefighters have been raising money throughout the year to support the “Warm Up Winter” campaign. Over the past two years Milwaukee Firefighters have donated 5,000 new winter coats to children in eleven MPS schools. Often times, when a child does not have a proper coat they will not make it to school or participate in outdoor recess, which helps children burn excess energy allowing them to focus during class. Providing warm coats to these children protects them from the harsh Wisconsin winter while helping them be better students.
This past June Milwaukee area residents helped us raise nearly $90,000 when Milwaukee firefighters collected donations at intersections throughout Milwaukee. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Milwaukee firefighters will deliver 2,500 new winter coats to students at five MPS schools this year. A kickoff event with Assistant Chief Gerard Washington, MPS Superintendent Doctor Darienne Driver, Milwaukee Alderman Jose Perez, State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa, Sparky the MFD mascot, and the Bucks mascot Bango took place at Allen Field on November 12, 2014.
