Malcolm X plans continue to move forward

MILWAUKEE — MPS is moving forward with its plans to bring a high-performing school to the former Malcolm X Academy building, an effort the district has been highly engaged in since the concept was first discussed.

The district will continue to work on the construction of the project and will issue a Request for Proposals for a construction manager.

The Milwaukee Board of School Directors has approved the implementation of an assignment agreement with the developer. The agreement requires the developer turn over all work product associated with the project to the district. All of these materials are required to continue to move the project forward. The district’s due diligence on this matter includes an independent assessment of the costs and deliverables.

The district will complete the project in time for the school to open in Fall 2016. The district will hold periodic public meetings to update and further engage the community on the project.

A draft of the assignment agreement is available ahttps://origin.library.constantcontact.com/doc207/1116905619247/doc/RMZIHuomlwVm0Jii.pdf.
