Audubon SMART Team presents research at Medical College of Wisconsin

Students from Audubon Middle and High School presented their protein structure research at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) last weekend. The SMART (Students Modeling A Research Topic) Team was trained in protein structure and function as well as computer visualization software. The students worked closely with a research mentor to design and build a physical model of a protein studied by the research lab using rapid prototyping technology (3D printing). The SMART program lasted seven months with students working before and after school at Audubon, as well as many Saturdays at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) or MCW.

The team from Audubon participated in three phases of the program: a qualification phase, a research and design phase and the presentation phase. The Audubon SMART Team includes Celina Deleon, Esmeralda Tovar, Nicole Loeffler and ZadaMae Zurheide. They are advised by Mr. Brian Coffey.
