Doerfler 1st graders win MLK contest

MLK writing contest winners-2The first grade students in Room 109 at Doerfler School wrote the winning entry for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. K-1 group project writing contest. Their book, entitled “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Dream: A Nonviolence Handbook,” incorporates Dr. King’s ideals and the students’ ideas for applying his dream in their own lives. The class is taught by Mrs. Connie Michaud and Mrs. Tammy Sorrel.

The theme of this year’s essay contest was ‘Nonviolence . . . the most potent weapon.’ The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 2014 Student Essay Contest, in its 31st year, is sponsored by the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
