H.W. Longfellow School 8th grader Tazaray B. posts her pledge to become a “success story.”

Milwaukee Public Schools is celebrating National GEAR UP Week with activities that encourage students to start – and continue – thinking about college. Throughout the week, students have been exposed to college experiences and opportunities by their teachers and MPS TEAM GEAR UP program coordinators and asked to formally commit to the TEAM GEAR UP pledge to go to college.

The programming is an example of the work being done as part of GEAR UP grant worth $30 million to bolster college- and career-readiness among MPS students. GEAR UP has been implemented at six MPS middle schools and eight MPS high schools.
