MPS retirees honored for centuries of collective service

retirees2013Nearly 100 recent MPS retirees and guests attended a reception last night to honor their dedication to Milwaukee Public Schools. The event was held at Boerner Botanical Gardens and hosted by the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens and sponsored by the Greater Milwaukee Committee. MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton and MPS Board Director Mark Sain also attended.

Dr. Thornton thanked retirees for their service and reminded them they are leaving a legacy of success that will positively impact not only the children they taught, but the entire city, for years to come.

Monday, nearly 200 new MPS employees attended orientation at the district’s central offices. This group is part of the nearly 400 new teachers hired after the third year of an expected three-year wave of MPS retirements.
