ALBA students plant oak tree

Students at Academia de Lenguaje y Bellas Artes (ALBA) planted an oak tree outside their school earlier this month, replacing a tree that had to be removed last year. The tree planting activity tied in with the school-wide activities that were planned around Earth Day in April, which included a school-wide family recyclable art project contest, a school assembly that included recycling-focused activities, in-class reading and writing assignments on the impact of recycling. Each class also participated in a paper recycling competition and the winning class got to go to a local park to celebrate their tree-saving efforts.

Throughout the spring semester, all ALBA classes studied life sciences, which ties into the Comprehensive Math and Science Plan. CMSP is the result of a community-wide effort to imagine more innovative and effective approaches to ensuring all MPS students master challenging content and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in math, science, and related technology and engineering fields.
