Outgoing Milwaukee Board of School Directors Peter Blewett and David Voeltner were honored Milwaukee Public Schools for their service to MPS, its children, families and staff.

Blewett was a 12-year member of the Board representing District 6. Throughout his tenure on the Board, Blewett was a champion of public education and a strong supporter of many MPS initiatives including writing, literacy and language programs as well as the International Baccalaureate, Montessori, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and Head Start programs.

Voeltner was elected to the Board in April 2009 to serve District 7. Voeltner worked to create the Board’s Committee on Student Achievement and School Innovation to consolidate student achievement efforts. Through his support of the MPS partnership with Growing Power, Voeltner encouraged MPS students and staff to learn about environmental sustainability, prepare for careers, develop healthy eating habits and become good stewards of the environment.

New Board members Tatiana Joseph (District 6) and Claire Zautke (District 7) will be installed at the April 23 Board meeting.
