Leonard Bernstein’s “MASS” stemmed from his intrigue and awe of the Roman Catholic Mass in Latin, his daughter wrote. The piece deals with faith, doubt and belief – and expresses the turbulent political and social atmosphere in the U.S. in 1971, MHSA Music Department Chair Raymond Roberts said.

“This has been a great teaching tool to connect our kids to that time period and to expose them to the power of music as a tool to express thoughts and ideas,” Roberts noted.
