Highland Community School to move to former MacDowell bldg.

MILWAUKEE – Highland Community School, a charter Montessori school authorized by Milwaukee Public Schools, will move to the soon-to-be-former home of the district’s expanding MacDowell Montessori School under a decision approved by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors Thursday night.

MacDowell currently serves grades K3 through 8 but is set to expand to serve grades K3 through 12 at the district’s Juneau campus, 6415 W. Mount Vernon Avenue near 64th St. and Blue Mound Road. That leaves its current home, 1706 W.  Highland Avenue north of the Marquette University campus, available.

“This is a win-win,” Superintendent Gregory Thornton said. “Two schools with stellar reputations are moving into buildings that will better fit their growing needs.”

Highland and MacDowell will operate at their current locations through the end of the regular school and will open in their new buildings as the school begins in September.
