Director Sain, Superintendent Thornton host District 1 listening-discussion session on Saturday

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee school board Director Mark Sain (District 1) and Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Thornton are inviting parents and neighbors in Board District 1 to attend a listening session and community discussion on Saturday.

Director Sain, the Superintendent and community members are expected to discuss what is and is not working in District 1 schools, vision for the district, the district’s financial challenges, the upcoming budget process, facility needs and the use of vacant school buildings.

The meeting is a chance to forge stronger partnerships among parents, neighbors, students, schools and teachers.

Board District 1 includes schools and neighborhoods largely north of Silver Spring Drive and west of 27th Street to the northern and western city limits. Click here for a map of District 1.

Principals of 18 schools in the district have been invited to attend the session set for 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. January 28 at Harold S. Vincent High School, 7501 N. Granville Road, Milwaukee 53224 .

Those schools are Vincent, Barton, Bruce, Bryant, Burroughs, Goodrich, Hawthorne, Kluge, Madison Academic Campus, Maple Tree, Milwaukee School of Entrepreneurship, Milwaukee Sign Language, Parkview, River Trail, Satori, Stuart, Thoreau and Thurston Woods.

Child care will be available on-site for parents who arrive with children.
