National Board Certification

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Mary Chemlick, Sara Cruz  and Kayla Czerwonka are three of the newest National Board Certified teachers in Milwaukee Public Schools. They join 63 others in MPS and just 876 in the state of Wisconsin.

• Chemlick is certified as a Generalist/Middle Childhood at Hampton School.
• Cruz is certified in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood at La Escuela Fratney.
• Czerwonka is certified in Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood at U.S. Grant School.

What is National Board Certification?

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards supports the highest certification a teacher can earn, one acknowledged across the country, and the process by which candidates develop their reflective practice and overall teaching quality.  The path to be becoming a Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) and developing a professional portfolio aligned to the national standards is seen by many teachers as the most powerful professional learning experience of their careers and is made all the more powerful when teachers pursue certification with colleagues from their school and with the support of their school leaders and entire school community.

What is the Take One! program?

The Take One! program is a shorter version of the full certification process. This process can be done by individuals or entire facilities.  Because this process is open to principals as well, this is an excellent professional development opportunity that supports the culture of a professional learning community.
