What if the course is offered during the day, who do I get permission to attend from?

If you are requesting to attend a course during work hours, you must complete a “Professional Leave Form” (found in your school’s main office) and submit to your school leader for approval.  Your school leader reserves the right to approve or deny the request.

Will I get paid for attending a course?

Yes.  Teachers are compensated in accordance to the teacher contract.

Can I repeat the same course?

Repeat participation in any course is highly discouraged and will not be compensated.

Will this course help me with my Professional Development Plan?

Courses that are selected for participation should be based upon the needs of your students as well as your professional development needs.  This includes any sessions that align with any professional development plans (PI-34).  A course transcript is available in Professional Development Assistant (PDA).  

What is the usual class size?

The average Professional Development course size is typically 25-30 participants.

When will the next course be offered again?

If you are unable to attend one of our currently scheduled courses or wonder when the next time a course will be offered, be sure to check PDA periodically and/or check with the sponsoring department for upcoming sessions.

Do I have to apply to the courses?

The Professional Development courses are non-credit offerings and do not include a formal admissions process. Courses should be selected based on your current needs as it relates to the grade level and content area you teach. Some cohorts may require an application essay.

What happens if the course is cancelled/changed?

If we must cancel a course for any reason, all registrants will be notified as soon as possible. MPS reserves the right, without prior notification to students, to change course content, instructors, meeting times or to make other changes as are deemed necessary for the effective operation of courses. Participants are encouraged to periodically check their MPS email account for any changes and/or cancellations prior to the start of a session.

What is the attendance policy?

Minimum attendance requirements must be met in order for a course to take place. Attendance and participation criteria are specific to each course. All courses start on time. Participants should plan on being in their seats at the start of each course. After 15 minutes from the start of the class, open seats may be given to people on the waitlist.

Will I receive a confirmation of my registration?

Yes, once you register for any of the Professional Development courses, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing course information, including dates, times, location, etc.

How can I register for a course?
